Get creative and share your talent with Summit County!  The Fine Arts Show, offers residents from novice

to the professional the opportunity to exhibit their craft in a public display. It includes: Fine Art painting,

drawing, photography, pottery, sculpture, and ceramics.

Premium's from all exhibits awarded shall not exceed the amount of $35 per person (Excluding Jr. Livestock Show)

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Please read all rules and regulations carefully.
  • The Fine Arts Show will be held on the Fairgrounds in the Ledges Event Center on Park Road. 
  • Registration for artists submitting their artwork in the Fine Arts Show will be available at multiple locations and times. See the list of options below and pay close attention to the times.
  • Under the Fine Arts Special Rules, each artist will be limited to two (2) pieces of hanging art this year (instead of three).
  • All paintings, drawings, graphic art, and photography submitted in the Fine Arts Show – including all youth entries - this year must be framed and ready-to-hang with wire. Please read each section of the following rules carefully.   
  • Premium money should be picked up at the place designated for premiums at the fairgrounds. 


FINE ARTS SPECIAL RULES

PLACING & RELEASE OF EXHIBITS:

1. Entries will be accepted at any of the following locations, during the times designated below:

  • July 1 through July 31, 2024, at the following locations during their regular business hours.

            Summit County Information Office, Summit County Courthouse, 60 N. Main Street, Coalville 

             Kimball Junction Library, 1885 W. Ute Blvd, Park City

  • Tuesday, August 6, between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Summit County Fair Fine Arts Show at the Fairgrounds (Park Road, in Ledges Event Center) in Coalville

2. All art will be displayed in a climate controlled building.

3. Entries must be reclaimed following the Fair on Monday, August 12, between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

4. The Summit County Fair will not be responsible for any exhibits left after 7:00 p.m. on Monday..

5. The Fine Art Show exhibit will open Thursday, August 8, at 4:00 p.m., and close Saturday, August 10, at 8:00 p.m.

REGULATIONS:

  1. Entry to the Summit County Fair Fine Arts Show is open to all artists who are current residents of Summit County.
  2. Each artist will be limited to two (2) pieces (instead of three) of hanging, framed art. Media can be mixed (for example, 1 oil painting, 1 watercolor, etc.).  Maximum size on any piece of art work will be 48" in the largest dimension.
  3. Youth 12 years-old and younger are limited to one (1) item in each category (1 drawing, 1 painting, 1 Sculpture) Please pick your very best items to bring to the fair.
  4. Each artist will be limited to three (3) pieces of art in the categories of pottery, sculpture, glass, and metal. (Media can be mixed, for example:  1 sculpture, 1 pottery, 1 metal)
  5. Work must not have been entered in the art show previously.
  6. Each artist must register in one of the following Classes:  Professional, Amateur, Youth or Senior Citizen (the section in which the artist wishes the entry to be judged) on the entry form. An entry not so designated will be judged in the classification which seems most likely to the jury. Work done in media other than the listed categories will be placed by the supervisors into the most closely related category.
  7. Youth participation ribbons will be awarded to youth 12 years-old and younger and entries will not be judged.

THE MANAGEMENT WILL USE THE UTMOST CARE TO SECURE THE SAFETY OF ARTICLES AFTER THEIR ARRIVAL AND PLACEMENT. SUMMIT COUNTY FAIR IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGED, LOST OR STOLEN ARTICLES.

PREPARATION OF ENTRIES:

All hanging art (paintings, photography, drawings, graphic art, etc.), in all categories and age classes, must be securely framed and ready-to-hang WITH HANGING WIRE (equipped with screw eyes and wires; no strings or cords). The receiving committee is instructed to refuse to accept paintings not meeting this requirement. Paintings just freshly painted with the paint still wet or plaster sculpture newly cast and still wet will also be rejected. THE MAXIMUM SIZE LIMIT FOR ALL WORK IS NOT TO EXCEED 48 INCHES IN ITS LARGEST DIMENSION, INCLUDING THE FRAME. All Youth art work must also be framed and ready-to-hang with wire. Judging will be done in the following classes and categories and the artist must classify himself/herself in one of these groups: 

CLASSES:

  1. Professional  - those who engage in photography for financial gain or who have a diploma, certificate, degree or three or more years of training in fine arts or teach classes in it.
  2. Semi-Professional – those who have a degree or training in fine arts and who sell their artwork but do not rely on those sales as their primary income
  3. Amateur - those who have little or no training in photography and do not derive income directly from photography.
  4. Senior Citizen – persons 60 years of age or over as of August 1, 2024
  5. Youth
  • K-4th Grade
  • 5-8th Grade
  • 9-12th Grade

CATEGORIES:

  1. Fine Art
    • Oil or Acrylic Painting
    • Water Color
    • Graphic Arts (pencil and ink, etching, block printing, lithograph, pastels, collage)
  2. Sculpture (all media)
  3. Pottery
  4. Hand-blown glass
  5. Metal
  6. Other / "Life in Summit County" - This category must depict life (its scenery, people or events) in Summit County. This category will be available only if there are adequate entries.

In order to display the entries to their best advantage and to avoid overcrowding, the fine arts committee reserves the right to jury before judging if it is deemed necessary due to space.

AWARDS:

  1. All judged entries will be awarded a ribbon.
  2. Judge's Choice awards will be awarded in each category, with sufficient number of entries, at the discretion of the judges.
  3. Best of Show will be determined by judges from the entire show. Best of Show will not be awarded to the same person in the same class two years in a row.
  4. One People's Choice ribbon will be awarded on Saturday afternoon from among all fine arts entries (paintings, drawings, graphic arts, pottery, sculpture, glass, metal, etc.) and will be determined by votes cast by viewers of the show.

 


 OPEN CLASS PHOTOGRAPHY SPECIAL RULES

  3. Work must be original and completed within the last year.
  4. Photography entries must not have been previously exhibited in the Summit County Fair in order to compete for prizes.

Due to the method of hanging at the show, ALL PHOTOGRAPHS must be framed and ready-to-hang WITH HANGING WIRE. Photographs will hang vertically or horizontally. The framed photograph must be no smaller than 5" x 7" and no larger than 16" x 20". Exhibitors must place on the back of each framed photograph the exhibitor's name, address and phone number.  Prints entered in a SERIES CLASS (for instance, “Summit County Panoramic”) may be a maximum of 24 x 24 inches.

Judging will be done in the following classes and categories and the artist must classify himself/herself in one of these groups.

CLASSES:

All artists must register in one of the following designated classes:

  1. Professional - those who engage in photography for financial gain or who have a diploma, certificate, degree or three or more years of training in photography or teach classes in it.
  2. Amateur - those who have little or no training in photography and do not derive income directly from photography.
  3. Juniors - persons who have not reached their 18th birthday by August 1, 2024.
  4. Senior Citizens - persons 60 years of age or over as of August 1, 2024.

CATEGORIES:

  1. Portraiture
  2. Wildlife
  3. Landscape
  4. Sunsets
  5. Still Life
  6. Miscellaneous
  7. Summit County Panorama - This category must depict life (its scenery, people or events) in Summit County. This category will exist only if there are sufficient entries (minimum of two).

JUDGING:

  1. Entries will be prejudged and those not meeting the standards of the exhibit will not be hung. Judging will be on the following basis:
  • Overall Presentation
  • Content and Composition
  • Photographic Technique (image quality, tone, color, texture, etc.)
  • Originality and Merit

Judges will consider the qualities and merits of each photograph on an individual basis.

AWARDS:

All entries in photography will be judged.

All judged entries will be awarded a ribbon.

Premiums are the same as they are for Fine Arts. 

  1. Judge's Choice will be awarded in each category with sufficient number of entries, at the discretion of the judges.
  2. Best of Show awards will be determined by judges from the entire show. Best of Show will not be awarded to the same person in the same class two years in a row.
  3. One People’s Choice ribbon will be awarded on Saturday afternoon from all photography entries and will be determined by votes cast by viewers of show.

 COUNTY COUNCIL PURCHASE AWARD

One painting will be chosen from the Adult Class and one painting from the Youth 9th-12th Grade Class as Purchase Awards. The paintings will be selected by the Summit County Council and will become a part of the Summit County Art Collection. The County Council and exhibitor will determine the fair market price for both paintings.
